Geez, MySpace is huge...

For whatever reason, I thought MySpace and Facebook were on par, where web-traffic was concerned, but I couldn't have been more wrong with my assumptions. According to a new article at TechCrunch, Facebook owns 16.03% of the social-networking scene, while MySpace has 72.32%.

If Facebook is supposed to be worth $15 billion... imagine what MySpace would be worth.

Well....

Myspace is over commercialized. VERY commercialized.

No kidding. Seems like "whatever it is, you can find it..." on myspace.

(PS I've never used MySpace [been on facebook for a month now] so I can only guess from hearing how many people/companies have sites there....)

I will never go to a "social networking" site and I will never let my kids either. Those sites are creepy and even if I am overreacting, there is no chance I'd ever go. In all honesty, I have never even accidentally gone to any of them, even just to look. Just far too creepy.......

I personally hate the fact that many bands' record-labels are MySpace-whores and refuse to post band "exclusives" in other places, such as the official website. Tiger Army did this when they first released a single for their latest album... I was glued to MySpace for a few days and it had nothing to do with the site itself.

In all honesty...I know I won't change your POV...sounds like someone watches too much of the OH MY FARKING GOD WE AREA ALL GOING TO DIE!!!111 local news...however...

For eg, The people that get in trouble...think the girl that killed herself recently. She could have easily removed the guy as a friend or blocked him entirely...no drama. People that get in trouble on networking sites ask for it in the first place by making the profiles, for eg, open to everyone and putting incriminating (read: sexy or doing illegal [read: drinking] stuff) evidence for everyone.

Now that you know (you newegg? :D)

I agree that most of the problems that stem from social networking sites are because of the people using them, but in the example of that girl who committed suicide... she was like 14-years-old. What do you expect? 14-year-olds are naive and are sometimes too foolish to realize that there is a huge problem. I blame most of that on the parents... many of them could care less what their child is doing online (I know of people like this).

My little brother uses Facebook, and I make sure to check up on him from time to time. I know what goes on there. Many of these people have no ambition in life and would rather spend eight - sixteen hours a day glued to a social networking site instead of picking up a phone and leaving the house. I don't want to see my family fall into the same ridiculous trap.

I have no use for sites like this. If I need to be in social contact with people, then I use the phone, actual physical human contact or if I have to over the net it is with messengers. I just do not like the idea of them and the fact that so many gullible people post so much personal info on them. Sorry but the entire concept is far too creepy and personally invasive to me. I am not saying noone should use them, but there is no place in my life for them.
