Linspire recently announced a free version of their popular distribution, appropriately called Freespire. Though early in testing, we take a hard look to see if this will be a distro you should be considering.
After reading the article, feel free to discuss it here.
It was planned since the start of the project that Freespire would be based on Linspire 5.0 (aka old software, like KDE 3.3) and then, after having a good starting point (Freespire 1.0) to start develop a new version (Freespire 1.1) with all the new software (KDE 3.5.3, kernel 2.6.17 and so on). You can read about that point on http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20060501 (interview to CEO of Linspire) and in the Freespire wiki: http://wiki.freespire.org/index.php/Freespire_Roadmap
New Freespire 1.1 will be the base for future releases of Linspire.
Thanks for the info... I even read that interview and it went out one ear apparently. Glad to hear that future versions will use newer applications. I look forward to checking out 1.1.
