Why did the SMART tab show me the temperature of my raptor to be 105F before I put a fan right on it, and now it says 115F. I felt it and it doesn't feel even warm, but at ambient. The value is 115 but the worst field say 96F and hasn't moved, are they backwards? You know when something is 115 and I'm betting that this is wrong, but why? If you use the trial version does it lie to you to force you to buy the full version?

That may be roughly correct, 115F is 46c, and that isn't extreme for a 10k Raptor.

Speedfan also will give HDD temp readings and SMART info. I suggest creating an account to use the beta software though, the official release is horribly out of date and has a great many bugs the betas fixed long ago. http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Every time I run speedfan 4.34b51 it crashes but the old version works. I just have to figure out what temp 3 is, says its 127C and that's making me worry.

edit: This also says my discs are 114F and 120F..this isn't very reassuring.

edit: I powered off and stayed off for 20 min, when I booted back up speedfan is saying I'm now at 123F. Could the SMART function be bad?

I've seen normal drives reach 46c... not good for a normal drive, but for a 10,000RPM Raptor it should be fine. Those drives do run hotter than 7200RPM drives.

If you have a fan blowing air over it then I wouldn't worry about it. :) Not very likely the drive sensor would be bad.

Good, I looked into as well and saw that the Raptor will draw .9A at idle and about 1.3A during load so that would explain the heat. But even after I have it off for hours I don't see how Everest says its 122F within minutes. I got a cooler on the way and I'm going to install that regardless. Hopefully it takes some of the noise out of it too.
