EA's Origin Service to Soon Introduce Third-Party Titles

Since its launch earlier this summer, EA's Origin digital game store has been met with some rather vocal reaction. If Web forums and comment sections are to be believed, Origin is the worst piece of software that could ever grace our PC. But if there's one valid complaint I can agree with, it has to do with its selection. If Origin has Steam et al in its sights, the selection has to improve.

I feel so divided about these things. Doesn't seem I will ever be able to form a solid opinion.

On one hand the free market lover in me wants to see competition, as this is the best way to ensure quality and helps companies focus on their consumers. But on the other hand the thought of having to install multiple online store clients, each with their own features and all completely unrelated to each other really gets under my skin.

It worries me more because looking at the retail market as it is being slowly emptied of titles, there will probably come a time when, if I want to play a game, I will have to install whatever required client software it uses, whether I like it or not.

This is true, I agree. It's a catch 22 though, because while I hate the idea of having to use multiple clients, I at the same time hate the fact that there's just one ruler - in this case, Valve. The folks there are doing a good job as it is, but still, I hate the idea of no competition.

I'd be fine if I could use most of my games across all platforms though. It'd be nice to purchase a game on one service and be able to use them on multiple, so that you can choose to stick with whichever you prefer. This is a pipe dream though. It will exist to some degree, but not the degree I want it.
