A few weeks ago we took the 1907FB for a spin, and now it's the E196FPs turn. It features a bright 19" viewing area and supports up to 1280*1024 at 75Hz. Let's see how it performs..

Since you've read the review, it only makes sense to comment in here.

No DVI = no future proofing. And also means that there will be some issues when watching copyrighted material once highdef content on Vista becoems avliable. And mark my words, the copyright flagging on media in Vista wont end at highdef...it will be plastered everywhere from Quicktyime movie trailers, to probibly even google video, or Youtube. It will get rediculasly out of control.

Anyway, enough politics.

The lack of a DVI on any LCD monitor IMHO, is inexcusable.
Equally inexcusable, is that Dell is selling a substandard outdated LCD panel technology, with an outdated interface, and still selling it for a premium price.

LCD panels are cheaper to manufacture then CRT's, cheaper to ship then CRT's, and from production start, to retail outlet sale, are cheaper by a wide margin from that of CRT bassed displays...so why on earth then are they still selling for up to (and somtimes above) twice the price of an equevilent CRT display?

It just doesnt make sence to me.

My next monitor will likely be an LCD type display, but will need to offer a little more value added insentive for future upgrades then what this monitor does. You really wouldent have to spend that much more money to get a considerably more future proof display (please note i said future proof, not feature rich, big difference).

Thankyou for the great review.

I've been looking at grabbing one of these to replace an aging 17" CRT here in our office that is gradually become more and more fuzzy because of some strange interferrence from a nearby office. Thankfully, i've discovered LCD's are unaffected by whatever is causing the issues, and have been looking into the E196FP.

Seems like it fits the bill perfectly, we wont be moving to Vista until some time after it's release (we operate a Real Estate, and a number of applications we use wont be supported on Vista at first), we wont be doing HDCP/Hi-Def, so we're also clear on that. It's crisp, clear, and cheap.

Again, just wanted to say thanks for the review, it's practically the only one out there. Everything else i've seen has barely any information and just ends with someones generic opinion that states they don't feel one way or the other about it :p

I like the LCD (big and bright) but the thing that gets to my nerves is that if I change the resolution to a "widescreen" res or a 1024x768 the desktop expands it and it looks crappy. I upgrade the ATI drivers and tried to change that from the control panel but "autoadjustment" feature won't let me do that... it kinda sucks...

xbox 360

I am running xbox 360 through a logic 3 phono/vga converter and am having problems with the reolution setting. Every time I switch to the xbox input I the monitor auto adjusts to 800 x 600 and only shows in black and white. if I change the xbox settings to 50hz I get colour, but some games will not play in this resolution. How do I get the dell e196fp to stop auto adjusting or change the settings manually? I've tried everything!
