Are you looking to delve into the world of water cooling, but don't know where to start? Danger Den has sent us a slew of products to get our rig up and running, including the new AMD TDX block. Since this is also my first high-end water cooling rig, I relay my experiences to you.

Judging by the thickness of the radiator it's a Black Ice Extreme and not the Black Ice Pro. The Extreme is a dual row rad whereas the Pro is a single row rad.

Easy way to tell is with a tape on the tank, the Pro will be about an inch thick.

Nice read, great temps considering it's a single rad and a mid flow pump.

Hi,

Nice review.

To help with temps (if you haven't already), try having the fan attached to the radiator pull the air through it rather than push. Also try it with another 120mm fan on the otherside of the rad.

Your gpu is cooled much better as its getting the water straight from the rad where its coolest.

Simon, thanks for your kind words. As it is now, I have the back fan pulling air out of the case, across the fins and out the back. Last night, I just got in a dual 120mm rad from Danger Den and will be hooking it up this weekend. I am thinking that my CPU will get chilled by the smaller radiator and both of my GT's will get water from the larger radiator. I am anxious to see what results I can get with 3 120mm fans blowing over the radiators. Might be overkill but thats the name of the game sometimes...:D

I had a dual rad too, but I have a Antec P180 and couldn't fit it in without some serious dremel work! I've changed it to two single 120mm black ice Xtreme rads and fit them in the case with minimal modding (lost the hard drive hold with the toolbox but in the top compartment). I got it so the front rad has a fan sucking in over the rad, and then the back rad by the cpu is sucking in over the rad, still leaves one 120mm fan to exhaust in the roof of the case. I currently have it setup like this. pump-rad1-cpu-chipset-rad2-gfx-back to pump. I've only got an A64 4000+ and a 850XTPE thingy! But the cpu runs at 24C at idle, not check under load yet. Gfx is 30C idle. Not sure how these compare, but it helps being in England where its damn cold already! ;) This watercooling stuff is rather addictive!

I will post my results.

I too have the P180 and while its an amazing case, there is no room at all for a water setup of this size. Any size for that matter unless its external. I had to switch to the Kandalf and that case has more room than I know what to do with.

Now my only problem is how to mount the large radiator in the front of the case.....time will tell.

Putting the rad up front is a cakewalk, it's just figuring where to put the HDDs that's a bear.

There is plenty of room up front. I am concerned with how I am going to fasten it down, so to speak.

I am using the top gondola for the hard drives at the moment.

Get a 12" piece of 1/4" wide 20ga flat strap. Mark the center of it, measure 2 1/6" in each direction from center and drill 1 hole on each mark. After that test mount it to the face of the rad. Next bend it so that ot forms a "U" the same width as the drive bay but make it a squared U more like |____| so that you now have a bracket. Slide that bracket into the 6th drive bay up and mark the ends where they line up with the drive's screw holes. Next, mark and drill the holes. Make sure to do this with the rad mouted to the bracket and the rad all the way down to the bottom of the bay.

After that a little velcro on the bottom of the rad and the bracket at the top will hold it quite nicely. :)

Just got back froM Lowes and I have a pair of polypropolene 90* elbows that I might try to make work. I am somewhat worried about the flow restriction though of having a pair of 90 degree turns so close in the loop. Will this matter at all?

chipset cooling with DFI LanParty UT nF4-D

Is it possible to fit a cooling block on the chipset of a DFI LanParty UT nF4-D motherboard. The location of th echipset on this board seems to be slightly differt than on the SLI board. It is located directly under the video card in the first of the PCIEx16 slots. I deosnt look to me like there is enough room to fit anything under the card. Anyone done it?

There area few chipset coolers that -should- work with the Ultra-D. I upgraded before I could try this out but at the time had looked at a few different coolers that were supposedly compatible with the silly design of the Ultra-D.

Try the Thermalright HR-05-SLI or This one.
