Bloomberg has just released its updated list of the world's most valuable brands, with the top seven brands retaining their same spots from the previous year. Coca-Cola is in first, with a net value of $71.861 billion, with IBM in second at a close $69.905 billion. Microsoft places third, Google fourth, GE fifth, McDonald's sixth and Intel seventh. The value delta between #1 and #10 in this list is $43.382 billion.

This is only one list, it's mostly the advertising value of the BRAND, NOT the companies in question. Companies are valued in different ways, for example market cap which places Exxon first, Apple second. If you use the "Cash in Bank" metric, then it's, I believe General Electric first. Not sure who is second, third, etc. The there is the 'Revenue' metric. I'm not sure who is first, second, etc., but I know Microsoft will do about $69 to Apple's $104 billion. Six months ago, according to another scource, the number one and two most valuable companies were these. Personally, I take these lists with a pinch of salt even though I admit they are interesting nonetheless.

Even without a list I'd say that Apple is the world's most valuable brand. Samsung releases a phone, no one gives a damn. Apple releases a "second edition" iPhone and people go nuts. Apple has a power that most companies do not.

IBM, eh? To me, they're kind of like a relic of the past. Looks like they're still a player though.

I used to think so about five years back... I could not disagree more, though. :) They're driving technology as much as Intel and have a very rock solid business portfolio. They continue to design and develop super computers and service most of the server industry. And in assigned patents, they consistently have beaten even Intel (Samsung is actually bigger than Intel in the patent rankings). Link
