Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to Offer Dedicated Servers for the PC

Well, here's something I never expected to see. Either Activision (and/or Infinity Ward) has lightened up a bit, or it's begun to consider Battlefield 3 a serious threat to its bottom-line, because the company has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will support dedicated servers on the PC.

Why is it only the threat of competition the only reason game studios and large companies as a whole ever finally do things they should've done to begin with that benefit their own customers.
