BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have jointly announced their retirements from the game industry today. Muzyka will go on to invest in and mentor new entrepreneurs, while Zeschuck plans to go on and drink a lot of beer and putting that fun to video with interviews and other ideas. Both Muzyka and Zeschuk remained with the company since its inception, five years of which were spent under the EA umbrella.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I seriously have to wonder if EA's policies had something to do with their retirement. I just don't recall them ever mentioning they were even considering retirement.

EA's involvement in screwing up ME3 and DA2 must've given em a hint, 'their baby Bioware is dead, Long live the new EA-Bioware!'

Its Westwood studios all over again! :(

It's kind of sad, I admit, and rather amazing that a company like EA would try to take over and mess up BioWare's proven formula. I never understand when companies do that.

I do, they buy it because it's a known entity. They know that the fanbase will keep buying games based on past success in hopes that it'll get better. Then after it fails due to them releasing garbage under the new regime EA will shutter the doors of Bioware while blaming it on either a fickle industry or a fickle fanbase.

Exactly. If companies like EA would continue to allow their acquisitions to continue doing what made them so popular in the first place, then there'd be a far smaller risk of a shut-down. I sure hope BioWare doesn't actually go down that path.
