ASUS Lamborghini VX2

When we took the VX1 for a test drive in November, we were impressed. ASUS has returned though with an update, appropriately called the VX2. It includes revamped styling, a much more appropriate video card, a fingerprint reader and high-end webcam. If you've been holding out for a revision, you will be glad you did.

You can read the full review here and discuss it here.

Yeppers, that is one fine and dandy looking beast. Sexy, powerful and with looks to kill, this is one baby that I would love to own, if it only could run all the software that I need and love.

PS. Did you mention the gas milage on this baby, or did I miss it?

I have a bad habit of typing Episode 2. Now, if it was Half-Life: Episode 1, that would be a different story, since I already didn't hit the 2 key.

errors in review

thanks for the review, but some questions/remarks from me.

From the VX2 review :

Improved here though is the 15.4" LCD screen, which is now in widescreen format, 1680x1050 compared to the VX1's 1440x900. This is essentially 27% more pixels in virtually the same sized screen, so the picture is a lot crisper on the VX2.

From the VX1 review :

The default resolution of the 15" LCD is 1400*1050, which is non-widescreen format. ...... No complaints at all, despite the standard resolution.

My comment :

VX2 has 20% more pixels, and thats the increase from 15 to 15.4 inch.
Pixelsize is probably the same, so how can this lead to a 'crisper' picture ?

Then in the VX1 review, 1400x1050 is considerd standard resolution, but the majority of all notebooks (widescreens included) don't have that many pixels, so how can this be 'standard resolution' ?

You are right, the original is 1440x1050. I have no idea where I got the idea that it was 1440x900. I might have been mixed up because I was using the A8Js at the time which was using a 1440x900 resolution.

Obviously that wasn't the case. I made that statement when I believed the VX1 had a resolution of 1440x900. Thanks to that mistake, there is a smaller difference between the two.

I wasn't implying that 1400x1050 was a standard resolution, as in it's used all over the place. I mean that the aspect ratio was "standard", at 4:3.

Thanks for the comments. I will fix up that resolution typo.

VX1 Display Card Upgrade

Great that the VX2 is just out...! But, unfortunately my parents gifted me the VX1 just 2 weeks before the release of the VX2.

I am happy, really if you ask me. A black shining Lamborghini is what I needed. But then again, I am a gamer and the only thing that pulls me back on this is the GeForce 7400, I want to add some beef to it.

Maybe get the 7700 or whatever is the best available in the market right now. I can spend the money, coz the rest was a gift. So my budget is kinda open. Any suggestions???

Did you go through their support system? When you locate drivers for the laptop, you will need to click Windows XP in the drop-down.

I wish I had a good recommendation. I am not sure what's been upgraded in the VX2, but it might not hurt to give the older drivers a try and upgrade them from there. Your main goal might be to get the internet working, then running Windows Update and see what it can take care of.

I am not sure why ASUS is beginning to lack XP drivers for their newer laptops. It's the same for the G1S. I was told that all laptops should have XP drivers, it's just a slow process.

you would not happen to know how to make vista see a bootable disk? I cannot seem to get into cmos, maybe vista needs the boot order changed?

The laptop only has one hard-drive, so that's not an issue. You do have both Windows Vista and XP installed? If you installed XP -after- Vista was already installed, you will need to run the Vista boot-up disc and begin in recovery mode, and let it try to fix the boot loader.

If you have a completely stand-alone version of Vista, the best idea is to install XP first, then install Vista afterwards... on a separate partition of course.
