We've been talking about smartphone trends quite a bit lately, but with 2011 behind us, there's no better time to take a look at the overall growth (or losses) experienced by some companies through the year. It's of little surprise that both Apple and Google dominated the share, but it comes at the expense of RIM and Microsoft. Palm? Non-existent, as far as comScore is concerned.

Actually, some are saying that Apple is already beginning to steal back some of the market share that Steve Jobs says Android had stolen from it.

Apparently, 1.6 million more iPhones were activated than all Android phones combined for the holiday quarter, where iPhones, according to one rumor, and at least at AT&T corporate stores, sold a whopping 66% or all smart phones during this same period.

Android, on the other hand, only sold a mere 9% of all smart phones sold at AT&T stores. This is only one small area, of course, but it does seem to show a developing trend. Whether that trend accelerates, or decelerates, is something that we just don 't know yet?
