    Q6600 vs. E8400

Agreed. Just overclock the Q6600 as high as you can make it stable and stick with it. Still a great CPU.

    Cooling an OC'd E8400@ 4.0GHz

No, I don't have a fan controller at all. I half-expected the fan to just plug in and work. It's a fan that has a single cable (wire) that plugs into a fan connector on the motherboard... there's just one pin there, though. Then there is the Molex connector which includes two-pins, which is what...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

Nothing fancy might have occurred, to be honest. The bottleneck of thumb drives up to this point has been the USB bus, which tops out at around 36MB/s... a speed that some thumb drives have been able to achieve. It could be that the chips had great potential to begin with... it just needed more...

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up

Ahh, thanks for the link. That's right on the "money" then... I found ATI to be exactly $20 less-expensive on average. That doesn't look too good for NVIDIA, though. Arguably, they still have some nicer benefits on their card, but the thing went up $50 in the span of two weeks.

How Many Files Are On Your PC?

From our front-page news: Back in October, I made a post that was half a whine-fest, but carried information about a special tool that saved me more than once from breaking down and crying like a little girl who just dropped her fresh ice cream. TestDisk was the application, and I recommend...

Bopaboo Offers Place to Sell "Used" Digital Music... Seriously

The problem is, it's impossible to know that people are honest here. Some people will of course be, and there are people who are not that computer savvy who would no doubt follow the rules, but nothing at all would stop someone from making a duplicate of his or her entire collection prior to...

Crysis Warhead Features 5-Time Activation Limit

From our front-page news:DRM is a hot topic... there's no denying that. It's a subject that I've tackled in our news section a lot, and in many ways, I might sound like a broken record. But, there's just something about DRM that inspires me to write something. It's more than just inspiration...

    ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up

Two weeks ago, we published a performance comparison between NVIDIA's GTX 260/216 and ATI's HD 4870 1GB. What we found was that NVIDIA had the upper-hand, both in performance, and efficiency. Today, we're re-testing ATI's card with their new 8.12 driver, to see if it can increase performance...

    Intel Core i7 Performance Preview

The bus is kept at 133MHz because that's the safe limit for the chipset. You shouldn't assume that 4GHz is an easy overclock, because out of the three performance motherboards we've used so far, only one was able to hit 200MHz realibly. Even then, there is no way that 4.0GHz stable is going to...

Windows Usage Dips Below 90% for First Time

I agree... one of the biggest reasons Windows is still the true dominator is because of DirectX. They're not "stupid" enough to open it up, because you'd see an almost instant drop of Windows usage. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard "I only use Windows when I need to game"...

    Q6600 vs. E8400

That is such a wicked overclock, if stable. So much value packed into that small CPU, you are lucky it doesn't explode ;-)

    Cooling an OC'd E8400@ 4.0GHz

Somewhat off-topic, but don't make the mistake of picking up a high RPM fan that doesn't include a controller or uses molex connectors rather than a three or four-pin connector. Picked up some bad ass 141.1 CFM fan last week... big mistake. Normally, I could sleep with some constant noise, but...

Worst Band Names and Album Covers

Oh, alright. Well, I agree for the most part. "I think Rob might be of the right vintage to remember this character- the last time you would have seen him was on Atlantic Gran dPrix Wrestilng. My friend actually has this record!" Haha, how old do I look?!

Bopaboo Offers Place to Sell "Used" Digital Music... Seriously

From our front-page news: For as long as music has been sold, so has "used" music. Who hasn't at least once gone into a music store and looked at the hidden gems in their used section? Doesn't have to be music... could be video games, movies, anything. There's a reason flea markets are still so...

OCZ Releases Throttle eSATA-based Thumb Drive

From our front-page news: When USB-based thumb drives first came out, they were an object of envy. But, initial prices were rather ridiculous. The first one I ever had was a "freebie" from Dell with the purchase of an overpriced notebook (at the time). At 64MB, I couldn't really do much with it...

    SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB

I'm not sure about that particular card (the cooling might be better than most other HD 4870 1GB's), but we've taken a look at Diamond's version of the card, in our comparison from two weeks ago: http://techgage.com/article/ati_hd_4870_1gb_vs_nvidia_gtx_260216_896mb/ If I can wrap up testing...

    Gigabyte EG45M-DS2H

On the test bench today, we have Gigabyte's latest Micro ATX offering, the Intel G45-based EG45M-DS2H. This board carries the typical Gigabyte enthusiast charm, but also caters towards those looking to build a media center. But how does it stack up against the other Intel mATX boards we've...
