DFI Rumored to Cease its Consumer Motherboard Production

I have no choice but to sigh when I think back to DFI's NF3/NF4 boards... they were stellar. After that, things went downhill fast, which is unfortunate. They still offer a great number of enthusiast boards, but their reach just doesn't seem to be that good. I think for the most part, DFI caters...

    Adding FLAC support to MPClassic....

I realize that, but the idea I had gives somewhat similar functionality. The main difference is that yours is real-time, and has no saved play list. Either way, it's a cool feature.

    Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200

Hi Mite: Yup, that board is fine. The key feature to look for is that the board uses LGA775 processors. If it does, then the Pentiums will work. You might want to make sure you update to the latest BIOS, though, as those tend to add improved support for newer processors.

    Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

This is Bill's article, not mine. I mainly just slaved over the graphs and editing ;-) I tend to agree. The only thing better is an SSD so you'd get performance as well, but for obvious reasons, that's not a real choice for a lot of people right now. Haha :D

    Ever have hardware resurrect itself?

I should have done this... I didn't even consider it. I'm not sure if this was the case, because this is something I considered also, and I rubbed the contacts completely clean, and looked them over to make sure that was the case. The same goes for the slots themselves. I used canned air for...

    The new build ...

The fans must've been fun to do with a toothbrush! It's circumstances like this when I tend to lose patience and just throw out the old equipment. Kudos for not taking the same lazy route I tend to. Alright, I find this interesting, because I never gave it much thought before. You're saying...

Ten KDE 4 Tricks Worth Knowing About

Alright, thanks to this talk of Plasmoids, I ended up installing a bunch of them, or at least five. That's still a huge increase from zero ;-) I have "Now Playing", which displays the currently playing song, with full controls for the playback and volume. It looks like the volume is all the way...

Microsoft Told to Stop Selling Office Before January 11

It's the giving season, and we saw a major example of that last week when the FTC slapped Intel with a barrage of accusations. This week, it's Microsoft on the receiving end, with the gift-giver being the US Court of Appeals. Earlier this year, XML specialist company i4i won a suit against...

Epic to Release Unreal Engine 3 to Mobile Platforms

In a news post I made yesterday, I touched on the fact that mobile devices are becoming more popular by the day, and if you look back to just a few years ago, you'll see that the landscape has changed dramatically. Today, mobile devices are being used for a lot more than just talking or texting...

Ten KDE 4 Tricks Worth Knowing About

Welcome to the forums :-) I admit that I've never enjoyed that browser, but I've used it from time to time. One major issue I personally have with it in KDE 4 is with page rendering. On some sites, the pages will stop working properly, and scrolling up or down will end up merging all of the...

DFI Rumored to Cease its Consumer Motherboard Production

As an update to this, our friends at Ninjalane have discovered that DFI isn't likely to haul out of the consumer market entirely, but it will instead focus on niche products, not the same kind of products that everyone else is producing. DFI has long been great at this, so we may still see its...

    OINK!

Hah, a lot of Family Guy is funny. Like all shows, some are a hit or a miss, but overall, I love the series. You might also like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjBeXCqGKkY&fmt=22

    Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

Kicking off our hard drive coverage begins with a look at Western Digital's Caviar Black 1TB. As an affordable "high-end" consumer drive, this model includes all of the important features, and performs quite well throughout all of our tests. It also happens to win the contest for having the...

    FCC Investigates Verizon's Early-Termination Fees

Without question, one of the biggest advances in technology over the past decade or so that affects a great number of people is in the mobile space. Today, it seems like the majority of people out there own a cell phone, and many who do, own one in place of their home phone. It's no wonder...

VirtualBox 3.1 Released, Introduces "Teleportation" and Improves Snapshots

It's imperative to install the Guest Additions, because that adds that kind of support. Even with it installed, though, the resolutions listed are foolish, so I always find myself manually stretching the window to whatever resolution I want.

31% of Windows 7 Issues Related to Installation?

I've had minor speed-bumps with Windows 7, but no show-stopping issues, either on my personal PC or the benchmarking machines I use. I might consider myself lucky. It wouldn't surprise me if I ran into an issue sooner than later, though.

Adobe and Firefox Top Buggiest Software List

I wouldn't mind adding Modern Warfare 2, either. I get booted a fair bit from the servers even when the Internet connection is fine... and that's just one issue. I reckon that at least once an hour, I encounter some game-stopping bug. Oddly, my brother plays the game on the other PC and hasn't...

UAC Pop-up with No Password Box?

It was vice versa... mom's account was admin, his wasn't. And not typing in a password is fine, until a second account is created, which was the ultimate goal. As soon as a second account is added, Windows will not automatically log into one at boot. I didn't want his account to be an admin...

DFI Rumored to Cease its Consumer Motherboard Production

Well, this is dissapointing. According to rumors, DFI, long praised for its innovation and quality, may be shuttering its enthusiast part production in January, and instead will focus solely on the industrial PC business. This might be just a rumor for now, but given various circumstances...
