Default Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 32GB Review

A lot has happened in the USB 3.0 world since we took a look at Kingston's first 'Ultimate 3.0' drive this past fall, and thanks to some progressions, the company has just released a 'G2' variant of the drive. It's identical in looks, it's cheaper, and it proves to be the fastest non-SSD USB 3.0 device we've tested to date.

You can read through our full look at Kingston's DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G2 drive and then discuss it here!

I back up all of my testing for TG on a USB 3.0 flash drive as well as on a 2.5" hard drive also connected via USB 3.0. The difference between the two is about 6 minutes so can't see myself EVER going without a USB 3.0 capable flash drive.

Good raw throughput numbers but it's nice to see the Super Talent that I use spanking it around every now and then.

Yup, there's a major difference for sure. Even if the hard drive slows to a relative crawl while connected to USB 3.0, it'll still be a lot faster than if connected to USB 2.0. I copied 400GB of files to a mobile 5400 RPM drive the other night, consisting of 150,000 files, and the lowest speed it reached was about 44MB/s. Even -that- is 50% higher than the max of USB 2.0.
