ASUS GeForce 210, GT 220 & GT 240

This past fall, NVIDIA filled out the remainder of its GT200 series of graphics cards with three models. For basic computing, there's the $40 GeForce 210, while for those looking to get a bit of light gaming done, there's the $60 GT 220. And to round things off, there's the $90 GT 240, which handles all of today's games rather well at 1080p.

Ok, so maybe it doesn't actually whine but the noise coming from the fan is completly outragous. It's more like a swoosh sound... And you fail to mention that the fan does NOT vary the speed, it spins at full speed all the time. In no way could I have described the fan noise as "outrageous" during our testing. I have a lot of ambient noise in this room to begin with, but I tend to get annoyed fast when a sound off a CPU or GPU gets too loud. If I have a chance, I'll pop the card back in soon and get up closer to it.

In all reality, as far as I'm concerned, ASUS and others should have used a passive cooler. The card just doesn't get that hot in order to warrant a fan at all. A larger heatsink, passive, would have been a better choice.

a friend of mine wants to choose between the 9600GT or the GT220? in his budget the 9600GT would be a good choice?

Between just those two cards, yes. Might also look at the HD 5570 if it's in a similar price range there.

I agree with Kougar... the 9600 GT would be a much better choice. The HD 5570 is another good one though. That seems to be the overall best value for the sub-$100 segment.
