Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard

With gamers so content with current keyboards, companies such as Logitech are trying to introduce the most feature-robust and unique models to the market, and they've pulled it off with their G19. Featuring a bright top-mounted LCD and a slew of gamer-specific options, the only potential roadblock is the high price.

As for the keyboard itself, if you lover Logitech's boards you will not be disappointed. This is, in my humble opinion, a better feeling and working keyboard than the G15 series. As for the screen and its worthiness, the jury is still out there. I am a gadget hound myself and I would honestly buy this keyboard in a heartbeat just to have one.

That's still quite expensive though. For this, I think $150 would be a lot more manageable.

I would imagine that the biggest problem I would have with it is the limited amount of stuff i could put on the screen easily...

I would love the LCD, but how practical is it at the moment?

Give it some time though... I am sure some homebrewers will have some developed apps and modifications for it soon.

That's easily the biggest issue. I'm sure there are lots of coders who could figure out unique things to do with it, but in the end, would their needs be similar to yours? I guess the big question is, what would you want to be able to do with that screen that you can't currently? Personally, I'm not sure... but I really don't think I'd even care to have a screen to be honest.

I could use a screen like that to monitor FPS rates from a third party program, GPU information such as VRM or core temps, or other information I'd want to know while playing a fullscreen game. Other options might be overclock or system level hardware setting manipulation sort of like what ASUS does with their flagship motherboards already.

Is that something I'd really pay for? Nope, I don't see the sense in it. $170 keyboard or $225 best SSD on the market? I'd take the SSD and use my old compaq keyboard from my first computer.

Young father, just had a kid... kid lays down for a nap, wants to monitor the baby while getting in some FPS time. Set up a nanny cam that feeds the screen.
Code it to read a minimap for a game.
Have an instant messanger chat screen running on it.
Quest information on it while still running a game in full screen.
Display latest emails.
Stock prices.

I know rob is about to get mad at me for bringing up the miracles of "touch screen" again... But if this thing was touch screen, and still only 170...

There was a mini screen review i saw recently with a list of something near 50 things you could do with a minature screen, and the screen was only ~4x6 or something along those lines. Really small though.

I think there is a real market for something like this, but so far, no software developed for it.

Yes, alright... I'd be game for something like a FRAPS plugin that would show the average FPS as the game is running, because that'd be quite useful while running a benchmarking. Still, the price is the ultimate hitch here... such a premium for simple functions.

This screen is FAR too small for a touchscreen. It'd be useful only for an "Easy Button" widget.
