NeroLinux 3

Its taken a while, but NeroLinux has finally reached version 3.0. New features include HD-DVD and Blu-ray media support, a revamped GUI to mimic Nero Burning ROM 7 and more expert features than you can shake a stick at.

Hey Rob,
Again another great review. I love how Techage covers Linux-related topic too, it really sets it apart from other sites. Personally, I am still the avid K3B user or just prefer to go the command line way. However, NeroLinux3 has an excellent GUI which I think is very friendly for those migrating from Windows.

I agree, but for some reason I tend to enjoy NeroLinux a little more even though I have been using k3b for some time. It's not that there is anything wrong with k3b, but I just find NeroLinux is more enjoyable to use. It's hard to explain really.

For the $25 cost, a lot of Windows converts or those who straight out enjoy the GUI, it will be worth it. It did perform a little better than k3b in some of my tests, so that's another advantage. -Why- it was faster, I am not really sure.

hey everybody mine new to linux but old with windows nero can anyone help me ive tied to burn a dvd today and got message saying i had no video or audio vt can someone help please

I just wonder why, when burning from a 32 bit OS,and then when you try to use the dvd in a 64 bit system, it shows nothing on the disk.
Is there a different burn factor ?

Hmm, I have never seen an error like that before. Did you get an error when starting up the program for the first time?

I was just wondering if this version can do what (only) DeVeDe can: encode DivX & Xvid to a DVD-video that plays on any DVD-player?

Unfortunately I could not get K3B to do this for me and QDVDAuthor fails miserably.

No, I cannot see where that is possible. You can't do vice-versa, either. I tried the other night to convert a DVD-Video to MP4, like you can in Windows, but no cigar.

Well then I guess I still end-up using 2-3 Burning programs:

1) Default Gnome burner since it's very simple for burning images and full discs
2) DeVeDe for making Video Discs
3) K3B for ... multisession discs (this program is still new for me)

I suppose there isn't something that can do all of the above in Linux yet (Nero in Windows can)

I agree, it's not fun having to use a variety of applications to handle everything. Right now, I am not aware of anything that exists that truly handles everything.

You may want to try dvd:rip, though. It can rip DVD's to VOB, AVI and a few other formats. It doesn't allow you to burn after the fact, that I'm aware of, but that should be taken care of with another application. Not sure if this helps or not though...
