Default Logitech Revised G5

Logitech has quietly updated their popular G5 mouse, with the most significant upgrade being the extra thumb button. Although it's hard to warrant an upgrade for a current G5 owner, it's worth a look for anyone else in the market for a new gamers mouse.

You can read the full review here and discuss it here.

Default Nice news.

Haven't read about G5 mouse being updated. That's surely a news to me. Nice finding.

Answers to following questions might clarify your short review/preview:

1. the "new" braided cord. Is it covered with vinyl instead of plastic? I've used headphones with vinyl sleeved cord. Seems to be kinda durable to my surprise.

2. mouse palm area surface. The some old Logitech mouses has annoying shinny surface which attracts dirts/greases/etc. Is the new surface still shinny/glossy or it's doesn't attract dirts? Which one do you personally preferred?

3. mouse hardware. Have you guys taken apart the new/old G5 mouse to see if any hardware has been swapped (e.g. optical sensor version, resistor/components layout, etc). Yeah that will void the warranty no doubt and I'm not sure if Logitech likes your review with dissecting their mouse.

1) Don't think it's vinyl, but it's not plastic either. Just a soft fabric... it does seem it would be more durable over time. It looks far better regardless.

2) No, like the original G5, it's a rougher surface, not glossy at all. I hear your concerns.. it's one of the few things I don't like about the G7/MX518.

3) No I didn't do anything like that.

Can you guys do a side by side review with this and the Razer Deathadder? I'd like to see how you think they compare.

The texture on this mouse feels like dry skin and it's ugly. What happened to the excellent 510 in blue design? The side buttons do not "click", the mwheel's up way up there in the air, and it can't track as well as a DeathAdder.

I've owned the following and here's my list...

1. DeathAdder
2. MX518
3. MX510
4. IE3
5. Habu
6. G7
7. MX1000
8. G5 V2
9. Copperhead
10. Diamondback

Thumbs up

Thanks for the review,
I like the new paint job, pretty cool mouse I thought the G5 looked a bit depressed in Brown
I have a G5 and 2x Lim-ed G7's and the extra button should have always been there, on all of them, it was the only gripe I ever had.

I have an OCZ equalizer also(Im mouse mad) and it doesnt have the same build quality as the Logis,
Razers rock

When's this mouse supposed to come out? I see no mention on the Logitech website. Do you know if they plan a G7 with 2 side buttons?

I will shoot Logitech an e-mail on Monday and see if they know. Like I said in the review, they really seem to careless about this mouse... which is why it's not on the shelves yet. Foolish really.

Cool new look. I have the original G5 in my lady's rig. I bought it for myself but ended up liking the MX518 more.

Nice review.

Thanks ... I'd buy this mouse if it had the two side buttons. I was really annoyed with the design with the one button. Whoever made that decision was not thinking clearly.

I have to say, it's about time Logitech updated their ugly website. Looks great now!

Great, but wish they'd add a 2nd button to the G7 ...
