From our front-page news:
Where Windows and Mac OS X releases are concerned, people take notice. After all, each OS gets a complete new version only every few years. That's not so much the case with Linux, however, where there's a sheer number of new distro versions each month. So when one occurs, most people don't think too much of it. But with Ubuntu 9.10, the release has been long-awaited, even for non-users of the distro. Canonical promised some fairly big things, but did it deliver?

Going forward, would you mind not quoting the entire post, but rather just a paragraph? It takes up a lot of space in people's browsers when the entire post is found twice in the same thread.
I agree with you though. When Ubuntu first came out, I couldn't stand it. I couldn't understand the hype. But since then, it's gotten a lot better, and using it gives a great feeling of knowing that you're using something of quality, despite the fact that it's made completely free to anyone. Windows and Mac OS X have their perks, but it's certainly nice to have such a wicked offering for those looking for something else.
