hello all this is my first post; trying to solve a home audio conumdrum. I have a vista computer with soundmaxHD audio on the mother board--theissue is that it seem you can only have analog or spdif optical outputing--it is an either or option which makes hooking up to the home theatre reciever a problem.
Are there any sound cards that allow for straightforward similtaneous analog and spdif optical output?? or is this a vista(ie msoft) issue that no soundboard can get around??
thanks

As far as I know any high end soundcard would support both at once, like the ASUS Xonar D2X.
The cheaper DX version would not because the S/PDIF also doubles as one of the analog ports though.

thanks Kougar--any way of confirming that to be sure that Vista does not subvert simultaneous output?

I don't have the ability to test it out personally, sorry.
There shouldn't be any issue with Vista however, it is the sound drivers that will control ports. Best I can tell all you need to do is select the correct channel mode and port setup. Rob or Rory should be able to confirm this or not too.

My X-Fi Prelude allows both SPDIF and analog outputs. I'm running Vista BTW.

Thank you I dont think this issue can be resolved unless someone has a a board hook up and try to get both outputs tested
