If you have any comments, suggestions of ill regard towards our second contest (http://forums.techgage.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1561), please feel free to spit it here. You can also discuss ideas for other contests you'd like to see in the future. We are all ears.

The first contest isn't over yet and another starts; oh snap; awesome job Rob; I am definitely gonna take a crack at this one.

I am confuse as to what this means though:
No more than 4 photos per entrant (not 4 per entry, but per entrant).
Does this mean you can post four different "angle" pics on one case/entry?

Rory Buszka
03-08-2007, 09:08 AM
It means that you, werty316, can only submit 4 photos in all.

This helps keep it fair, and saves disk space on the server.

I was looking at the rules and just out of curiosity, what the heck is this: "residents of Canada may be required to answer a simple math question."

LoL, why is that?

slugbug
03-08-2007, 12:30 PM
Ok I get it now, a maximum of two entries with four pics total.

I think it's because Canada doesn't allow free giveaways simply by chance, but they allow it if a simple test of skill is involved. This way, since the winner is chosen at random from the top five ugliest cases, we don't run afoul of this rule. I'm not sure if this restriction still exists, though, as I don't live in Canada.

@slugbug: Yeah. That means if you want to enter two cases, you're limited to two photos of each case, for a total of four.

madmat
03-08-2007, 08:12 PM
Um...wouldn't it be a case of us choosing from the bottom five? I mean the top five would be the least ugly of the bunch ;)

03-12-2007, 08:11 PM
Read the rules (cf)Eclipse,

You'll need to cull through those and pick the ones to keep so that you're within the rules.

my bad, i'm a lazy ass who never bothers to read. thanks for pointing that out for me :D

I would've just lost the one made from the DFI box and kept the other since that would be 4 pics of 2 cases. Please feel free to put them up again.

I would like to enter, but I don't stand a chance, because all of my cases are in ok shape. I have one right now which was $50 with a 550Watt power supply. The power supply was preety shitty till i got a mushkin 650Watt power supply. :) I can still give it a try later on.

hey y'all
I heard of this contest and thought I had the perfect entry...

I only have this picture for now but rest assured I've got my other three coming up. And If I understand correct, we can have 2 entries so my labor of love AM2 sytem might participate to show its ugly face. Its in a black standard case, yet the insides beg too be shown. By the way in the cardboard box is a Pentium 3 866 with a geforce 2 gts, 512 megs of pc-133 and a 80 gig WD hdd.
I will post more photos soon.

Yes, two entries but 4 pics between the two so that's one more image of the first and two of the second or three of one and one of the other. That's up to you.

the_dope_chaud
03-14-2007, 08:30 AM
I'm sorry, I should have CLEARLY specified that I fully read and understood the contest rules and guidelines, I just assumed, especially that half of the thread is already dedicated to the 4 photos rule, that when I said 4 photosI meant 4 total and I believe after werty316's comment its clear that people have to read the rules. (I dont understand either werty...) Anyways I was thinking about 3 photos old pentium, 1 photo am2 rig. I'll hit you guys up tomorow with that....ANd by the way, do you guys want to hear why we need a new case/need that beautiful Thermaltake bling, or is this contest strictly based on photos?
thank you and good luck to all!

madmat
03-14-2007, 09:57 AM
Considering that going over the limit with photos means a DQ and I AM trying to help keep people from getting DQ'ed you might understand that I am only looking out for YOUR best interests since I've got nothing to gain here. The way your post (original BTW) was worded made it sound as if you intended to post three more images of that rig and more of the AMD rig which is why I was reminding you of the limits.

If you can't appreciate the fact that I'm only attempting to keep as many people in this contest as possible then I'm sorry I wasted my time and yours.

all good, I fully understand(and appreciate your time...), I'm in between work and school, so the pictures will be for later. Nice to see some people on the internet that still have a bit of respect and patience, btw....

and with such a sweet contest, I don't understand the low number of participants...

Thanks madstork91! (eep, I mispelled that as madstock 3 times, maybe you should consider changing :) )

I spent a lot of time on this case, I kept running out of parts so I really had to optimize. One big problem is that legos are NOISY, they tend to vibrate and reflect the really high pitches, so I'm thinking of adding some sort of foam padding to the design. :)

...It can only make it better, right?

hey, the weekend is upon me and I've now got time to post some pics

so here goes:
this is the inside of my carboard box
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/7348/photo011vb8.th.jpg (http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photo011vb8.jpg)

and this is my regular, everyday rig.
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6151/photo002hz9.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photo002hz9.jpg)

as you can see, I've spent some time and money on my baby, and the only place I cheaped out is the case...
its an antec slk3000b, standard black tower. I would love a case with a side window, and as you can see, I already have cold cathodes and led fans to turn this mother out!!!

btw, my rig is:
asus m2n-e mobo
3800+x2 AM2 @ 2.4
2 gig kingston 533 ddr2
asus 6600 (bfg 7600gt oc coming from ncix)
WD 160gig sata2 +WD 40 gig backup IDE
You should merge this "cardboard box" pic with your first post here (http://forums.techgage.com/showpost.php?p=12618&postcount=19) so not to confuse anyone to keep your entry together as one post. I thought for a second you posted 3 entries because of this.

I err... have been through the Montreal airport! There have been a few times when I've supposed to actually go into Montreal for a few things but it's never actually happened.

I gotta say though, the employees at that airport are the most stern of any I've ever been through. They don't give off the impression that Montreal is a welcoming place, heh.

BUt yeah, putting cork boards on the outisde of a case sounds like it might be a legitimate good idea, I think I'll do that next time I work in an office without separators or posting boards, thanks for the idea.

Ok, after some internal debating, I've decided to publicize the five contest finalists (a collaboration between Madmat and myself). From most ugly to least ugly (though it doesn't make a difference, as all finalists have an equal chance of winning), here are your Ugliest Case 2007 finalists:

1st: (cf)Eclipse's second entry, with the watercooling shaz and the big cardboard duct -- this is the most ghetto and ugly of the 'cases'. Madmat and I both agree: get that thing into a (real) case!

2nd: the_dope_chaud's cardboard-clad case. Is that a piece of stick-on woodgrain-print vinyl that I see? B'getto, yo.

3rd: Cooldude's cardboard case. Cardboard seems to be a theme among the top three - it seems it would be a good idea for hopefuls to keep cardboard in mind for next year's 'Ugly Case' contest.

4th: Werty316's "Fist-Modded" Case. That's just an ugly case, even if it wasn't missing a couple bay covers. I can see why you'd want to punch it. How do those speakers sound? You're in like Flynn.

5th: Slugbug's "Custom Ventilation Holes". I remember the first time I took a power drill to a case. It wasn't pretty, but at least it was on the bottom where no one could see. It didn't take long before that case was history. Perhaps you'll soon be able to commit that case to the landfill as well.

If you're not on this list -- don't despair! You've still another chance to win some shiny new shazbot in Contest 4, and show off your writing skill in the process. A pair of fantastic ASUS motherboards are up for grabs. Thanks to everyone for entering; it's you who made this contest interesting.

Rob will be announcing the contest winner within 24 hours, randomly selected from one of the five finalists.

BTW, I passed over the Lego case because it's cool, not ugly.

Ahahah! Thanks!

It is, actually, kinda cool, because (you can't see it in the pictures) it has no bottom. The motherboard is held aloft mostly by its edges. Not the best thing to do to a still-working machine but it's old so who cares. :)

madmat
04-14-2007, 11:49 AM
Now, see, that is extremely cool. Maybe next year we can do something about the most original case mod and you can enter it then. I really like it and it deserves some recognition but, damnit, it's just not ugly.
